Meet the 5 Blue Flag beaches of Cancun

The Blue Flag certification

Blue Flag is the certification granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) organization that is responsible for qualifying through a rigorous process, those beaches and marinas around the world that meet the highest standards in terms of water quality, management, and environmental education, security, and services. In Mexico, there are about twenty beaches with the Blue Flag certification, of which a quarter are in Cancun. Here we show you what they are, as well as their location in this paradisiacal Caribbean destination.

Las Perlas Beach

Las Perlas Beach is for those looking for not-so-busy places and somewhat apart from the heart of the hotel zone. In Las Perlas, the sea acquires turquoise green tones and its waves are quite soft, so it is considered a family beach. In the access to Las Perlas, there is a parking area and the facilities include free use of palapas, playgrounds and sanitary facilities. The beach has lifeguard surveillance.

Chac Mool Beach

During the Spring Break season, it is usually one of the busiest beaches due to its amplitude and moderate waves. In the surroundings, you will find some beach clubs that are managed by the same nightclubs, as well as the Forum by the Sea shopping plaza.

Marlin Beach

Access to Marlin Beach is between Kukulcan Square and the tourist police station. The area has a wide sandy area and the waves tend to be strong, especially at sunset with the increase of the tide, so it is more advisable to visit it in the mornings or at noon.

Marlin Beach has all the necessary tourist infrastructure: toilets, tables, chairs, lounge chairs, and drinks and snacks served in the palapas that house small bars. Lifeguard surveillance is constant. Other tourist sites that are very close to this beach are the La Isla shopping center and the new Mayan Museum of Cancun.

Whales Beach

Public access to Playa Ballenas is located between the Hard Rock and Secrets The vine hotels. In this area, you will find a swell that ranges from moderate to intense, so it is recommended for people who have basic swimming skills. Whales are characterized by their long white sand beach. In the place, you will find lounge chairs for rent and small palapas. Jet sky services, banana steps, and toilets are also offered.

Dolphin Beach

Playa Delfines has one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in Cancun, from where you can distinguish the different shades of the Caribbean Sea and its incredible sunrises. It is located in the part of the hotel zone closest to the international airport, and its beach is characterized by moderate swell areas and others where it is intense. This is one of the most visited beaches in Cancun, so it has a lifeguard service, public toilets, lounge chairs and palapas, motorized water sports and a bar area.
